Safety & Remote Operation
Important safety information
Castellan Smart Access provides remote control and access-management functionality for compatible gates, doors, barriers and other access equipment.
Castellan sends an activation command to connected access-control equipment. Castellan does not replace the safety systems built into the gate motor, door controller, barrier or other access equipment.
All safety beams, obstruction detection systems, anti-crush mechanisms, limit controls and other manufacturer-required safety devices must remain installed, operational and properly maintained.
Never bypass, disconnect or disable a safety device in order to use Castellan.
If an access point, gate motor or safety device is damaged, malfunctioning or operating unexpectedly, remote operation must be stopped until the equipment has been inspected and repaired.
Safe operation
- Only activate a gate, door, boom or access point when it is safe to do so.
- Users must not intentionally activate equipment where doing so could reasonably create a risk to a person, animal, vehicle or property.
- Children must not be permitted to operate powered access equipment unsupervised.
- Remote access should not be used if the user knows or suspects that the access equipment or any required safety system is defective.
Physical safety systems
Castellan is not a replacement for:
- Safety beams
- Obstruction detection
- Anti-crush protection
- Gate motor force protection
- Mechanical stops
- Limit switches
- Emergency/manual release mechanisms
- Other manufacturer-required safety devices
All such systems must remain operational.
Property owner responsibility
The owner, body corporate, managing agent, business or person responsible for the premises remains responsible for ensuring that the physical gate, door, barrier, motor, track, hinges, electrical installation and safety equipment are appropriately installed, inspected and maintained.
Faults
If a gate or access point behaves unexpectedly:
- Stop remote operation.
- Keep people and vehicles clear of the equipment.
- Report the issue to the property administrator or responsible person.
- Arrange for inspection by an appropriate technician if required.
If the problem may relate to Castellan, use the Report a Safety Issue function in Support.
